I have about a million email addresses. Recently I noticed that I have been sending emails to people from nearly all of them, more or less at random. This was because of my Apple Mail.app settings. Apparently they allow you the option to send messages from either a single declared address or from the To: address of the last account you have viewed. This latter option works fine for replies; if you read a message sent to me@example.com or metoo@example.com, you'll automatically respond from the right address.
However, if you read a message sent to metoo@example.com and then later create a new message, it will automatically be sent from metoo@example.com unless you specifically tell Mail to send it from me@example.com. Obviously what one would want it do is reply from the same address that recieved the message being replied to, but default to a predefined address on all new messages that are not replies. It doesn't do that though; c'est la vie.
I figure it's time to tidy up a bit and get rid of some of these deadweight addresses. From now on I'll be using my @sittinginoblivion.com address for all informal communications. You can also contact me using the contact form on this site. Please remove any non-@sittinginoblivion.com addresses of mine from your bookmarks unless they are business related. Thank you.
