Whatcha Gonna Do?

Recently Amazon.com has been suggesting book rentals as the top results for many of my searches. Why would I want to rent a book? More to the point, why would I want to rent a book for 80-90% of the sell price? I could just borrow it from a library for free. This rental pricing strategy doesn't immediately make much sense to me.
