Homeward Bound
I have been slacking on blogging, I know. Not to worry. It's all perfectly natural. A blog is an exercise in intermittence. In the meantime, I have been busy. This weekend I signed a lease on a new apartment.
I am moving back to South Jersey on Sunday. The back door of my new place opens onto a quiet park featuring many trees and a small lake. The street and park are quiet and the neighborhood is nice. I don't imagine I'll ever be able to afford a house there, but the rent is surprisingly affordable and bachelor friendly.
I am very excited about the possibility of sleeping through an entire night without being awakened every 45 minutes by sirens, honking car horns, road crews and their heavy machinery, idling trucks, and the shouting of drunks in various moods. I can barely remember what it's like to step outside my front door and actually be outside. Outside and not surrounded by people and traffic and garbage blowing down the sidewalk in all directions.
There will, of course, be a commute to contend with soon. And this commute will be made all the more grueling on account of a major bit of track renovation planned by PATCO. But, if I am afforded the opportunity to actually sleep through the night at this new place, waking up early to avoid the rush shouldn't be an issue.
I miss sleeping.
