Desperate Acts in Dark Times
The truth is often stupid. (Bender, Futurama)
COVID-19 is presumptively here in the Philadelphia area. There are only a few suspected cases so far, but the numbers will likely reach alarming levels within a couple of weeks. I don't hold out much hope of containment, people behaving as they do. I suspect the mortality rate is skewing a little high because of selection bias, but I haven't heard anything that leads me to believe it won't kill a lot of people. Hand sanitizer will be hard to come by for awhile, that's for sure.
I'm considering setting up a Facebook account again. I'm incredibly ambivalent about this idea. The years I've been away from social media have honestly been some of the most pleasant in recent memory. I tried going back on Twitter for a bit not long ago and couldn't bear it. Facebook is a little different and provides a convenient platform to stay connected with friends and family as we all weather this storm. However, I have historically found that connectedness time-consuming and toxic. And there's an election coming up. You're all so dreadful during election years.
I'm not sure what to do. I suppose I'll wash my hands again.
