It's After Noon, I Should Get Out of Bed

The physical trauma from my tooth extraction seems to be healing up well. The bruising and swelling are gone. I think I'm out of the danger zone for a dry socket, but I continue to follow instructions, playing it safe. I've been eating a lot of mashed potatoes and refried beans. My capacity for digesting pinto beans is truly remarkable. I'm thinking of making hummus for dinner, but I'm feeling dreadfully lazy.

I haven't been getting outside enough. In fact, I spent all day yesterday in bed watching YouTube and burning through money from the comfort of my blankies online shopping.[1][2] That sounds kind of like depression, but don't worry.[3] I was up insanely late Friday night, listening to music and looking at art on the internet, like a post-post-post-modern bohemian. So, Saturday was a very low-energy day custom-made for loafing around on the sofa. However, I recently replaced my sagging, decrepit sofa with a costly reclining chair, which isn't all that comfortable, so now I tend to gravitate to the bed more than I should.[4]

And it's been cold, which is fine because winter is supposed to be cold here, but that still doesn't make it nice to be out and about. I'll go for a walk when this blog post is done. It's very bright out. Good light to take pictures with my Yehtta camera.[5] I won't likely be outside long. The cold winter days trigger my asthma. I think it's from the wood-burning stoves and fireplaces that accompany living in a historic neighborhood. I'm not sure.

I have a doctor's appointment about my asthma and persistent sinus infection in the morning. The good news is both are doing a lot better. I should also schedule a visit with my dentist to find out if I need an implant. An implant sounds expensive.[6] What isn't expensive anymore?

  1. Some of my YT favorites right now include Sip and Feast, Middle Eats, KQED 's vast collection of Jacques Pépin videos, The Death Of Art, and this All Tomorrows Audiobook (Full Reading). (I only found out about All Tomorrows yesterday.)
  2. I've been purchasing a lot of music and art books lately. And I needed new underwear. I buy pricey internet underwear because it's more comfortable and lasts three times longer than the stuff from the department stores. I bother to actually buy music because the streaming companies don't pay the artists anything you could live on, and people need to live on something. Of course, I also buy a lot of used CDs, and that doesn't pay the artists anything. Hmm.
  3. I've been feeling much better in the head since I left the Internet. My new job is not necessarily a dream, but it's pretty good and far better than where I was before. I feel much more lively and creative in general, and I can concentrate properly again. If I had known the positive difference not working for the Internet would have on my mental health, I would have quit to focus 100% on a job search some time ago.
  4. I finally broke down and ordered a new sofa. I didn't get the exact one I wanted because that one was expensive, only came in leather, and would take 2-3 months to be delivered. The sofa I ordered cost about half as much, and if I compromised a little on the color, I could have it delivered the very next week. That was December 20th. Two days later, my dental ordeal began. On Friday, a month and a half behind schedule, West Elm said my sofa was finally ready for delivery. Only they never notified me. I only found out because I've been going to the website to manually check my order status once a day for the last two weeks.
  5. It's a Yehtta Instant Print Camera for Kids that prints photos directly onto register receipt paper. It's fun. You probably shouldn't give them to your kids, though. Some thermal cash register paper may contain high levels of BPAs and other potentially hazardous chemicals. Surprise!
  6. Between dentists, endodontists, and surgeons, this tooth has cost $450.37 (and counting).
