Never Ending Apocalypse

If one is up to date on current events, it is reasonable to conclude the world is going to Hell in a handbasket—as the saying goes. On the other hand, if one is also familiar with history, it is reasonable to conclude the world has always been going to Hell in a handbasket. The history of human civilization is, when viewed from a certain perspective, essentially a collection of never ending apocalypses with coordinating handbaskets. However, I often fear humanity's new found globalization has placed all of our impending apocalypses in one basket, as it were.
